Congress office comes under attack; SDPI under lens

Meanwhile the hartal called by the Congress in Perambra town up to 6 pm in protest against the attack was peaceful.

Kozhikode: A group of unidentified persons rampaged the the newly-constructed Perambra mandalam committee office of the Congress at Residency College Road in the wee hours of Friday.

The miscreants broke the window glasses and glass door of the ground floor and destroyed the tiled floor.

Police suspects an SDPI link to the incident as there was stone pelting to the office of SDPI from the protest rally organised the other day in the wake of the murder of Congress worker at Chava kkad, allegedly by SDPI cadres. Later, SDPI workers also organised a protest march in the town against the Congress.

The police is yet to arrest any of the culprits so far. Perusal of CCTV visuals of nearby shops and tracking the mobile phones that crossed the area with the help of cyber cell also is on, police said.

The police which brough finger print experts to the site dismissed rumours that country bombs were hurled at the office.

The inauguration of the office which was scheduled for Thursday was postponed due to some discomfort for AICC general secretary Oommen Chandy who was supposed to inaugurate the building.
