Hyderabad: Telangana state Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will rush to Delhi on Friday to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the Centre’s approval for the Telangana state government’s new zonal system, which aims to reserve 95 per cent government jobs to locals. Mr Rao wants to stay in Delhi for two to three days if needed to pursue the case with the PM.
The state Cabinet on May 27 had approved the new zonal system categorising 31 districts into seven zones and two multi-zones. In each zone, 95 per cent of the jobs will be reserved for locals and five per cent for open category. School study from Class I to VII will be considered to determine local status. Those who study continuously for four years during this period in a particular zone/ district will be treated as local of that zone/ district.
The Centre’s nod is a must for bringing in the new zonal system as the Presidential Order issued in 1975 in undivided AP needs to be amended. The CM had went to Delhi to meet Mr Modi soon after the Cabinet meet on May 27 but returned as he could not get an appointment due to the PM’s foreign tour.
The CM met the Union home minister Rajnath Singh on May 27 and submitted a represenation seeking amendment to the Presidential Order before returning to Hyderabad. The file is learnt to be cleared by the the home and law ministries and has now been referred to the PM for his approval. The CM now wants to meet PM and explain him personally on the need and importance for TS government to bring new zonal system to ensure jobs only for locals.
Mr Rao has been meeting Mr Modi quite often amidst speculations of TRS moving closer to BJP. The TRS had recently not supported the no confidence motion moved by TDP and supported by Congress and other opposition parties. Mr Rao met PM less than two months ago on June 15. He again met PM on June 17 during Niti Aayog's governing council meeting. This was followed by his son and IT minister K.T.Rama Rao meeting PM within two weeks on June 27.
While AP CM N.Chandrababu Naidu did not get the chance to meet PM personally for nearly two years, KCR got PM's apppointment easily. After his son KTR too got appointment, political speculations hit the roof that TRS is getting closer to BJP.
