Bengaluru: The state Cabinet has decided to fund the setting up of a Centre for Excellence in Agriculture Innovation, to foster innovation in Agriculture Sciences.
Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mr Krishna Byregowda said that the campus will come up in the National Centre for Biological Sciences, located in the University of Agriculture Sciences campus(UAS). The NCBS has a C-CAMP incubation centre, which promotes research in science. However, most of the research done in this campus are human related and pharmaceutical industry oriented. None of the research projects are related to agriculture.
The IT&BT Department will provide Rs 5 crore, while the agriculture department will give Rs 10 crore. Private agriculture researchers will be encouraged to use the facility, Mr Byregowda said. Meanwhile, the Cabinet has decided to set up a Cabinet sub-committee for reviewing and extending incentives to large industries to be set up in the State.The mega, ultra and super industries are entitled to certain incentives for making investment. However, the government is not sure if the state benefits from such huge investment. The sub-committee will review the benefits and employment generation from such investments, before extending incentives.
The Cabinet also gave its consent to upgrade four medical college hospitals including those at Koppal, Chamarajnagar and Gadag, which will become 450 bed hospitals. The Mysuru Medical College Hospital will be upgraded to a Super Specialty Hospital. The state government has also decided to frame rules for recruiting staff in schools run by temples coming under Muzrai department. As for the PWD Minister's dream project-a dam at Holenarsipura- there will be no beautification or the guest house as proposed by Mr H.D. Revanna. The cabinet approved the dam project without a guest house and beautification.
