Tamil Nadu: Fefsi, Producers Council reps to meet labour department chief tomorrow

Why strike? Both groups should talk it out and reach an amicable solution, says Rajini.

Chennai: With Fefsi strike continuing for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, disrupting shooting of 40 Tamil films and superstar Rajinikanth releasing a statement urging workers to talk with Tamil Film Producers Council, the Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Board has taken up the issue.

After receiving a request from Fefsi to intervene and sort out the problem, the joint commissioner of TN labour department sent a letter to Fefsi and TFPC to send their representatives with due documents to participate in the peace talks to be held at 4 pm on Wednesday at their office at Teynampet in the city. They had also advised that the two associations not engage in talks directly. However, since TFPC president Vishal was out of the city shooting for his film and vice president Prakash Raj in Mumbai, TFPC members could not attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, R.K. Selvamani, president of Fefsi, said they had received a letter from the labour department with a revised date for the meeting, which is scheduled on August 4, at 4 pm, and they would attend it without fail.

Though we could not reach across Vishal, a close source to the actor said, ‘In the event, Vishal is held up with work, other office bearers like Gnanavel Raja, Prakash Raj and SR Prabhu will be available for the meet on Friday. And SR Prabhu confirmed to DC that he would indeed attend the meeting with joint commissioner. “We hope to come to a cordial agreement”, he stated.

Earlier on Wednesday, R.K. Selvamani met superstar Rajinikanth at his house to discuss the issue. Soon after the meet, Rajini issued a statement which read, “ As a senior actor, I request both Fefsi and TFPC should sit together and discuss and come to an amicable solution for the ongoing strike in the industry.”

Rajinikanth has also said that he doesn’t like the word ‘strike’ (velai niruttham) and any problem can be solved keeping the welfare of the industry rather than looking into self-esteem.
