Southwest monsoon: From deficient to normal now
Chennai: Heavy and widespread rains across the regions of Tamil Nadu have changed the southwest monsoon status in a day. Monsoon in the state, which was at a deficiency of 12 per cent on Tuesday, is now normal, after recording a whopping 14.8mm daily average on Wednesday, statistics from the India Meteorological Department showed. Wednesday's average is about 10 times more than the monsoon's rainfall.
Chennai's Nungambakkam station noted 1.5cm rain.Maduranthangam received 14cm. Kelambakkam and Shollinganallur recorded 7.6 cm and 5.7cm respectively. Officials from IMD said the west coast is forecast to receive moderate rains from Aug. 4. “While mountain ranges of TN will see good rains due to break monsoon, other parts of the state would witness rains due to convection,” said the official.
