Partial response to KSRTC strike

Its general secretary Rahul M.G., however, claimed participation of more than 30 percent of employees.

KOZHIKODE: The 24-hour strike called by a section of trade unions in KSRTC failed to have any significant impact in Malabar.

“All but a few operated," zonal officer Manoj Kumar V. told DC. "Even additional services were there in districts like Kasargod."

The trade unions were demanding regular disbursal of salary and pension, repealing anti-labour orders and policies, and for ensuring better work conditions.

Major trade unions KSRTC Employees’ Association affiliated to CITU which has 48 percent of employees as its members and INTUC controlled Transport Democratic Federation (27 percent) have kept off the strike.

Transport Employees Union affiliated to AITUC and others participated in the agitation. Its general secretary Rahul M.G., however, claimed participation of more than 30 percent of employees.

“They had to cancel 731 schedules,” he told DC.

“We comparatively have a lesser influence on the employees, but the impact was much higher.”

Though much more had wanted to join the strike, he said, the threat of mass transfers for participants deterred them.
