KMC authorities expedite poll process after HC order
Kakinada: Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) authorities are gearing up to hold elections to the civic body after a gap of more than seven years.
The High Court had, over an year back, directed the state government to hold polls to the Corporation. Again recently, officials received an-other directive for the same.
As part of the exercise, the KMC completed delimitation process and readied voters list. Caste and group wise survey like BC, SC, ST and women is also completed and the lists have been sent to the government and election commission for approval.
KMC commissioner S. Aleem Basha said the delimitations have been approved by the government and the voters’ lists have been published with calls for objections out. He said that BC, ST, SC and women survey lists have also been approved by the government and notification calling for objections from people has also been issued. He said objections from political parties have been taken for consideration.
Meanwhile, deliberations on appointment lists of returning officers, verification of EVMs, need for police personnel and others are in progress.
He said ward-wise voting is being strengthened. He said the government would divide the reservations of wards and other processes for conducting the elections.
Meanwhile, the KMC has not taken Turangi village into consideration. People’s Voice Convener Dusarlapudi Ramana Raju said that Turangi people also have given their consent to merge the village in to KMC along with S. Achutapuram, Swamy Nagar and Teachers Colony. But, the KMC has ignored Turangi village.
