Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday called the Congress party the “Number one villain of Telangana State”.
He said that the Congress had filed a total of 196 cases since the formation of the state, with the malicious intention of obstructing Telangana’s development.
Mr Rao addressed a press conference at Pragathi Bhavan, where he compared the Congress to a devil that had engulfed Telangana. He said that Pandit Nehru, during his tenure as PM, had merged Telangana with Andhra, against the wishes of the people of Telangana and the recommendations of the Fasal Ali Commission.

He said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had scrapped the Mulki Rules which would protect the jobs of the people of Telangana, and ordered firing on hundreds of students who were fighting for Telangana to be recognised independently.
Mr Rao also accused the UPA government of delaying the formation of Telangana, thus causing hundreds of people to commit suicide.
“The UPA did not create Telangana state out of love for people of Telangana. It did so out of compulsion, and in order to gain political mileage ahead of the 2014 elections, the Congress approved the formation of Telangana at the last minute. Out of anger and frustration, it is now obstructing development by protesting every scheme and programme undertaken by the government,” Mr Rao said.
He said that members of the Congress waited for the government to issue orders, and within hours of the release of a GO, they would file a PIL or a case in the High Court or the Supreme Court, he added.
“They are not leaving even tribunals like NGT to stop development projects in Hyderabad or construction of Bhadradri, Yadadri thermal power stations. They don't want us to give people drinking water, water for irrigation, electricity, flyovers, and roads. Is this a national party? They are obstructing all development programmes to serve their selfish political interests. They fear that they will vanish from Telangana if these programmes are successfully implemented,” he said.
The Chief Minister announced that he would soon take up a state-wide tour in which he would visit irrigation projects and districts and expose the Congress’ misdeeds.
