Andhra Pradesh to replicate Annapurna meal scheme

Everyday over 37,000 people including students marketing executives and daily workers have lunch at the 150 Annapurna centres in the city.

Hyderabad: A team of municipal commissioners from Andhra Pradesh who studied Telangana government’s Annapurna scheme in Hyderabad that provides meals for Rs 5, are now planning to commence the service in their state.

A team of municipal officials from Guntur, Palasa, Kurnool, Ongole and few other municipal bodies of Andhra Pradesh met GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy to learn more on the good services being extended through the Annapurna centres in Hyderabad.

“Every year GHMC spends about Rs 37 crore towards the subsidy offered for the Rs 5 meals, which are provided in association with Hare Krishna Movement. Every day, over 37,000 people, including students, marketing executives and daily workers have lunch at the 150 Annapurna centres in the city. The Telangana government is planning to introduce the service in Warangal in a short while,” informed Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, commissioner of GHMC.
