Home ministry has upgraded the status of Vijayawada district sessions court.

The AP Government has reportedly sought the Union Home Ministry to extend the same status to all district courts, for which the Home Ministry has responded positively, according to sources. Following the recent developments in Andhra Pradesh related to extremism and terrorism, the Union Home ministry has entrusted the additional responsibility to Vijayawada district session’s court and upgraded it to the Special Court status. The decision in this regard has been taken following the recommendation from the Chief Justice (FAC) of AP and Telangana High Court.

Orders in this regard have been communicated to R Niranjan, Krishna district additional sessions judge and metropolitan judge. From now onwards he will take care of the special court affairs, according to sources. It is also learnt that all districts in the state will soon have these special courts, as increasing traces of terrorism have been found in almost every district. The AP Government has also reportedly exerting all its efforts to get the green signal within short span.

It may be recollected that police have arrested a woman Maoist Bhutam Annapurna alias Aruna on April 4, in Amaravati, Capital of Andhra Pradesh, and it is established that Maoists movement is there in Guntur district. Similarly, police have suspected the involvement of sympathisers of terrorist groups in a vehicle burning case near District Police Office, Nellore in the recent past. Apart from these police and investigative agencies have concrete information about the presence of sympathisers of extremists and terrorists in the old cities of Guntur and Vijayawada, and also Nellore surrounding areas.

The NIA has few more important inputs about the increase in the presence of Maoists movement in Andhra Odisha Border, and accordingly it has alerted the AP State Police to have continuous vigil across the borders.
