Anantapur decked up for Independence Day

City being beautified for state-level celebrations.

ANANTAPUR: Anantapur city, which is hosting state-level Independence Day celebrations this year, has been given a new look with elaborate arrangements. The temporary APPA and Police Training College was chosen as the venue for the celebrations after the state government decided that Anantapur would be hosting the Independence Day celebrations. The main roads — Raju Road, Subhash Road, Court Road and PTC Road — are getting new islands and road dividers. The civic authorities have planted show plants at the road dividers. “Saplings of various species were planted on the gap between the road dividers to beautify the city,” Anantapur urban MLA V. Prabhakar Chowdary said, adding the chief minister would take attend several programmes during his visit to the city.

Anantapur joint collector B. Lakshmi Kantham is in charge of the arrangements at Police Training College and also other beautification works in the city. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will stay for two days in Anantapur. He will also attend several inaugurations a day before the celebrations. Joint collector–II Sayyad Khajamohiddin will be the liaison officer and coordinate with police authorities and other security agencies.

Anantapur in-charge DRO Malleswari will look after the accommodation of VIPs and state-level officials during the I-Day celebrations. Collector Kona Sasidhar said about 10 sky balloons would be arranged at PTC stadium to mark the grand event. More than 3,000 students from various parts of the state will take part in the celebrations. The R&B department is making necessary arrangements at the PTC grounds for the celebrations.
