Stone laying for houses doubles target on second day in Andhra Pradesh

The three-day mega grounding programme would be concluded on Sunday and the officials are expecting the same response from beneficiaries

Vijayawada: The 'Mega Housing Grounding Mela' got an overwhelming response on the second day on Saturday as foundations were laid for 2.56 lakh houses against the target of 1.28 lakh and the cumulative number reached 5 lakhs on two days in 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The grounding programme started in the early hours of Saturday where the beneficiaries in large numbers conducted the stone laying ceremonies due to availability of auspicious time. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other public representatives, all district collectors, joint collectors and other officials participated in the programme in their respective areas and laid foundations stones for the houses. The three-day mega grounding programme would be concluded on Sunday and the officials are expecting the same response from beneficiaries.

Minister for housing Ch Sri Ranganatha Raju, participated in the event at Nidadavolu in West Godavari district. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said houses to all was the prestigious programme of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy under which YSRCP government was providing house sites to 30.7 lakh beneficiaries free of cost. He said 15.6 lakh houses would be constructed under phase-1 under which house groundings started in the auspicious three days. He said the housing colonies would turn into mini towns in the coming days and added that the government was providing all basic amenities in these YSR-Jagananna Colonies.

Minister for transport Perni Venkataramiah alias Nani participated in the foundation laying ceremony at Gudlavalleru Layout in Krishna district. Addressing the gathering, Nani said Jagan Mohan Reddy never went back from his promises and fulfilled the promise to provide houses to the poor as well. He said AP was creating new records for the past two days by grounding more than two lakh houses per day and further a new record would be created on Sunday. Nani appealed to the housing beneficiaries to cooperate with the officials towards completion of house constructions in the scheduled time.

Minister for agriculture, Kurasala Kannababu participated in the housing grounding programme at Nemam Layout in East Godavari district. AP Legislative Assembly Speaker, Tammineni Sitharam took part in the event at Sarubujjili in Srikakulam district, Deputy Chief Minister and minister for revenue Dharmana Krishnadas in Polaki mandal in Srikakulam district, minister for panchayat raj and rural development Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy in Vunganoor constituency and Deputy Chief Minister Narayana Swamy participated in SR Puram mandal in Chittoor district.

Special chief secretary to the government for housing department Ajay Jain interacted with people’s representatives, all district joint collectors, project directors, beneficiaries and other officials at various sites and coordinated the programme.
