Interpol help sought to trace missing German

Kerala Police has also collected the background details of Liza through the German consulate.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police has sought the help of Interpol to trace Liza Wiese, a German national missing from the state.

The decision was taken as the preliminary investigations found that she did not reach Amrithanandamayi Mutt in Kollam, where she reportedly planned to go. The police will hold a video-conferencing with Liza’s mother and also Muhammed Ali, a UK national who came along with her. Subsequently, Muhammed Ali had left for US without Liza. They lived in the US after marriage.

Kerala Police has also collected the background details of Liza through the German consulate. She had worked with a Muslim group in Egypt and converted to Islam in 2012. She met Abd al Rahman Hashim and married him there. The couple have two children. Though she got divorced and returned to Germany in 2016, she continued to work for that outfit.

Liza had mentioned Amrithapuri Ashram in Kollam as her destination in the travel document. She and Ali had arrived here on March 7. However, Ali returned to the US on March 15 without her. The police are also checking if Muhammad Ali had links to any terrorist outfit.
