Hyderabad: Traffic came to standstill for several hours on the busy Gachibowli-Tolichowki road, where one person died in a crane accident early Tuesday morning.
Traffic is already congested here due to the ongoing construction activities and only one part of the road is serviceable.
Traffic police cordoned off one side of the affected road. Additional policemen were deployed on the spot to regulate traffic and commuters advised to take alternative routes to reach their destination.
Commuters on their way to offices located in and around the Shaikpet area were delayed as vehicles moved at a snail’s pace. Some passed the time taking pictures of the accident on their mobiles. The long queues of vehicles stretched on into the evening hours as well.
Major tragedy averted
The crane collapse could have turned into a major tragedy had it fallen on a transformer nearby. One of the parts fell only a few feet away from the transformer.
There were fears that apart from taking down power in the area, the metallic crane falling on the transformers could cause short-circuits and electrocute anyone at the work site who came in contact.
