Hyderabad: A man working at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was held by the Central Industrial Security Force personnel when he attempted to enter the airport with a knife on Tuesday.

He was handed over to the RGI Airport police who booked a case under the Arms Act and initiated an investigation.

According to the RGIA police, the accused Kareemuddin, 27, a resident of Golconda, was working for a manpower recruitment agency and had been posted at the airport as an assistant to handle day to day tasks for the last three months.

On Tuesday evening, Kareeemuddin went to the airport to report for duty, but CISF personnel who were at the entry gate stopped him after they noticed a knife in his pocket. After a check, he was handed over at the police station.

An official said that Kareemuddin had told the police that his brother had got married recently and, according to a ritual in their family, he had to carry the knife for 10 days with him.

However, as it constitutes a violation of the Arms Act, police registered a case against him and he will be produced before a local court for remand.
