Hyderabad: Flights diverted, 1,500 flyers stranded at airport for 6 hours

Five flights from Hyderabad were cancelled and the airlines had informed the passengers in advance.

Hyderabad: About 1,500 people had to wait for more than five to six hours at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad as 13 flights from different destinations to Mumbai were diverted to the city due to the incessant rain at the destination.

Five flights from Hyderabad were cancelled and the airlines had informed the passengers in advance. The stranded passengers had to wait at the airport terminal itself and had to do their best to entertain themselves. Three international flights were diverted and their passengers and crew were given hotel accommodation by the airlines.

A senior airport official said the international flights didn’t continue their journey to Mumbai due to flying protocols.

“They will now to be rescheduled. Their passengers are still in the city.”

The other ten flights were cleared between the afternoon and the evening as the rain situation in Mumbai improved.
