Hyderabad: 2 held for stabbing Uber driver in bid to steal car

Police said that Balaraju received a booking at Koti at about 8 pm on June 8 to go to the Sanghi temple.

Hyderabad: Wanting to steal a cab and sell it for easy money, two youngsters tried to kill a Uber driver. The duo stabbed the driver, Y. Balaraju, 35, and escaped from the spot.

Police said that Balaraju received a booking at Koti at about 8 pm on June 8 to go to the Sanghi temple. After reaching the temple, the passengers told the cabbie that their friend whom they were supposed to meet was not available to take calls and asked him to drop them back.

On the way, they stabbed Balaraju on his head, neck, and shoulders. The cabbie stopped the car and screamed for them. The passengers fled from there. He was found by a passerby at about 2 am on June 9 who called the police.

Hayathnagar police who registered a case of attempt to the murder located the booking information through Uber and the assailants were nabbed on Tuesday. They were identified as K. Praveen, 20, of Mirjaguda in Ranga Reddy district and M. Prasanth, 20, of Enkathala in Vikarabad district. They were caught at the Kacheguda railway station.

"Praveen and Prasanth confessed to having committed the offence, They wanted to earn easy money and decided to kill the cabbie and steal the car. Their plan did not work as the cabbie stopped the car and screamed for help. They have been arrested and produced before a court for judicial remand,” said a Hayathnagar police official.
