Telangana Congress plans opinion poll on new secretariat
Hyderabad: The Congress has decided to conduct an opinion poll on Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s constructing of a new Assembly building at Errum Manzil. Why construct a new building when there is already an Assembly, senior Congress leader Hanumantha Rao asked.
Speaking with mediapersons, he said that when Mr Chandrasekhar Rao had proposed to construct the new Secretariat building at Bison Polo Ground, he had conducted an opinion poll against it and 97 per cent of people had opposed the plan.
He said that he would conduct an opinion poll in the next 20 days to oppose the construction of new Assembly building. Asking the MIM not to support Mr Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision, he stated: “If KCR takes a decision to demolish Charminar what will MIM do.”
He said a future Congress government would convert the new Assembly building into a function hall and use the Council building as a library. He said that it is not good to waste public money and asked Mr Chandrasekhar Rao to concentrate on implementing the assurances given to the people. He said that it was very unfortunate to demolish heritage buildings in the name of construction of new buildings.
