Hyderabad: Men seek police help to get back wives

Tracking crimes has helped prevent crimes: Commissioner.

Hyderabad: Counsellers at centres established by the police to resolve marital disputes were surprised when some men, mostly techies, approached them for help to reunite with their wives. A few have even given complaints against their parents for not allowing them to lead a happy conjugal life.

The Rachakonda police has established counselling centres for women at Saroornagar, Bhongir and Kushaiguda where several hundreds of couples have been counselled over cases including dowry harassment, domestic violence, extra-marital affairs and for the birth of a female child.

Since January this year, counsellers have attended about 760 cases. Some men too lodged complaints with the police alleging their in-laws, and also their parents in some instances not being supportive.

Saroornagar women’s police station inspector G. Manjula said most of the complaints received were from techies. “In one case, a techie wanted the police to counsel his in-laws to send his wife back to him. Though there were no disputes, the woman’s parents were stopping her from going to her husband.” she said.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat, said the counselling centres established to help women in distress had received complaints from men. “About 17 men have approached the centres. Their complaints were reviewed and disputes settled.” he said.

The commissioner said the special operations team, constituted to deal with organised crime, has arrested about 1,955 persons in 832 cases and seized over Rs 4.92 crore in cash since July 1 last yera.

“Tracking crimes from source to destination has helped in preventing organised crimes like cricket betting, brothels and job frauds.” said the commissioner during a press conference at his office.
