Balanagar flyover out of crossroads

A HMDA officer said work was delayed as the GHMC had failed to acquire land for which the HMDA had secured consent from property owners.

Hyderabad: Work on the flyover from Balanagar Crossroads to Narsapur Crossroads has resumed after facing many hurdles for a long time, with the HMDA acquiring more than 120 properties.

The HMDA said that ground work for eight more piers would be ready in a week. If the work progresses at the same pace, the construction would be completed in nine months.

Till then, commuters have to face traffic jams. The HMDA has barricaded a 200-metre stretch along the narrow 1.32 km route where the flyover is being built.

A HMDA officer said work was delayed as the GHMC had failed to acquire land for which the HMDA had secured consent from property owners.

Land acquisition picked up with the intervention of minister K.T. Rama Rao. About 45 per cent of the land and property required for the flyover has been acquired.

The structures acquired by the GHMC have been razed after compensating property-owners.

A senior GHMC official said the corporation had acquired more than 100 properties and had secured consent for 49 properties whose owners had accepted structural compensation.

He said the HMDA will soon hand over 82 government properties under the control of private persons.

He said that the HMDA has given the nod to erect eight more piers. He said the road would be widened from 80-100 feet to 150-200 feet.

The HMDA has '265 crore to acquire property as per the Land Acquisition Act, 2013. An official said that if the GHMC had acquired properties at this pace earlier, more than half of the work would have been completed.

Asked about traffic snarls, he said that since the project has been taken up to help road-users, they were remaining patient until the road-widening and erection of piers is completed.
