Venganoor soon to be first child-friendly panchayat

An approach paper named 'Nilavu' compiling the details collected from Anganvadi, education centres were published.

Thiruvananthapuram: Venganoor panchayat is on its way to become the first panchayat to implement child-friendly governance. The governance will be initiated as per the United Nations convention on rights of child.

Grama sabhas consisting of children were convened as part of the implementation of the child-friendly governance in the panchayat. It has also completed the data collection and survey for implementation of the child friendly governance, said Anilkumar P.V. who is associated with the project.

A 40-member development committee and a 11 member executive committee comprising students have been formed for producing a development document for the child friendly governance, Mr Anilkumar said.

An approach paper named 'Nilavu' compiling the details collected from Anganvadi, education centres were published. A book with articles, stories, poems, pictures and personal experience of children were being published by the panchayat. The book will be released on the second week of July, said Mr Anilkumar.

Measures are also being taken to convert first buds school started in the state which functioned in the limits of the panchayat into a model school.

For the purpose, 16 cents will be purchased adjacent to the premise of the panchayat. There were also plans to form volleyball, football and basket ball clubs in the panchayat meant for the welfare of the children, said Mr Anilkumar said.
