Treatment plant for RK Puram Lake
Hyderabad: After high levels of phosphates and nitrates were found in the water at RK Puram lake, the Pollution Control Board has demanded a sewage treatment plant (STP) be built to salvage the lake.
“The nitrate levels were 25mg per litre and phosphates 8 mg, which are very high for any lake. The normal range is 10mg and 1 mg respectively,” said Mr N. Raveendhar, senior PCB .
Superintendent engineer Y. Shekhar Reddy, said it was for the Water Board to decide on the construction of an STP. Till it came up, officials were planning to build a diversion structure for the sewerage. The lake recei-ves 40 million litres sewerage daily from adjoining areas.” Mr Reddy said.
The diverted sewerage will flow to Safilguda lake which has a sewage treatment plant. Further downstream, the water will go to Pedda cheruvu which has another STP, the official told this newspaper.
