Telangana: SI intervenes in water row, hits man
Hyderabad: The SI of Mirdoddi alleged assaulted a physically challenged person, who came to the police station on behalf of his brother who had been detained by the police. SI Shiva allegedly assaulted Mogulla Ilaiah who was waiting outside for his brother on his sccoter. Though the event was captured by CCTVs in the police station, police denied the allegation saying that Ilaiah had abused the SI, and the SI had only tried to help Ilaiah when he fell from his vehicle.
There was a dispute over water supply from a lake to the fields between Ilaiah’s elder brother Komuraiah and another farmer Narsimha Reddy. Komuraiah lodged a complaint with the police, after which both parties were summoned.
As the issue was not resolved, Komuraiah used a JCB and dug a channel for taking water to his field. Narsimha Reddy then approached the police and when they told Komuraiah to clear the channel he delayed it. After this, the SI called Komuraiah to the police station. Komuraiah and his brother Mallesham met the SI, during which an argument broke out and constable Nagireddy and the SI assaulted Mallesham in the chamber.
Ilaiah, an OU alumni, came to know of this and rushed to the police station, but was stopped at the entrance. Then the SI came out of the police station and assaulted Ilaiah and Ilaiah tried to block the SI’s blows. As a result, they booked a false case against him, Ilaiah said.
Meanwhile, Siddipet police commissioner Shiva Kumar said they have collected CCTV footages of the incident. When Ilaiah stood outside the police station and started shouting, the SI came out and requested him to come in to talk. When he did not listen, the SI took the keys of Ilaiah’s vehicle and he assaulted the SI.
“The Siddipet ACP has been ordered to probe the incident. In addition to the present case there is a case against Ilaiah at the Mirdoddi police station. We will inquire and take action against those guilty,” the commissioner said.
Meanwhile, BJP spokes-person M. Raghundan Rao said since the inception of the commissionerate, police atrocities have increased. “Two suicides are clear proof of this,” he said.
