Heavy vehicles break law, enter outskirts illegally in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Although there is a strict bar on heavy vehicles entering city limits after 8 am till 11 pm many drivers break this law. In the incident on Sunday although the truck involved was in the city during the permitted time violations are common on the outskirts.
Traffic cops say heavy vehicles are not allowed to enter the city during the day. They are permitted to move in the city only from 11 pm to 8 am. Fines are imposed on heavy vehicles which are found inside the city during prohibited hours. On an average every day around five vehicles are fined for entering the city during the banned hours.
Despite this they enter the city violating rules.
In the incident on Sunday morning, the lorry which ran over a family was carrying cement from the Ultratech Cement unit in Shankarpally on the outskirts and was going to a godown in Ameerpet. The truck did not violate rules as it had entered the city before 7 am.
“Some truckers enter the city giving the miss to traffic cops. If caught a fine of Rs 1,000 is imposed. If the vehicle is caught repeatedly it will be seized as per law,” a traffic police official said.
