Tower dump data, cloned mobile tech help nab suspect
CHENNAI: The data of tower dump and cloned mobile technology put to use by police helped triangulate the suspect in Swathi’s murder. The police were in possession of the tower dump, which had a total of 6 lakh mobile numbers having access to Nungambakkam telecom circle. The circle has about 10 mobile phone towers of different service providers, between 6.30 am and 7 am, on the day of murder.
Using this data, the police managed to narrow down to 30 suspect mobile numbers. The numbers were further narrowed down to five strong suspects, on whom the surveillance was mounted. Arrested suspect Ram Kumar also figured in the last five suspect mobile subscribers. In a first, the cops had cloned the mobile to dig the digital trail, if any. And it worked accordingly as a text sent from Ram Kumar’s mobile before the murder landed soon after the cloned device was activated with the help of the mobile phone service provider. After the confirmation was made, the city police gave Ram Kumar’s detention a go from here, and Tirunelveli rural district Police executed it.
On the day of murder, Ram Kumar who fled by foot reached his mansion and as many as 20 grabs of his movement were lifted by police. He scaled the shard topped compound wall of Nungambakkam railway station at a specific transit point prepped by rag-pickers to transport their collection without having to climb the foot overbridge. His video grab trail went cold after he passed by Sourashtra Nagar 8th street and an eatery at that junction was the last to record his movement around 6.50 am.
