CoP: Unable to befriend Swathi, stalker killed her
CHENNAI: The lone-suspect arrested in Swathi’s murder was reportedly distraught over her rejection in his attempt to being friendly with her leading to the incident, asserted city police commissioner T.K. Rajendran on Saturday. Addressing presspersons, he said the suspect identified as Ram Kumar, (22), an engineering graduate, had moved to the city three months ago from his native Tirunelveli, in the pretext of looking for a job, and was staying in a private lodging house on Sourashtra Nagar 8th street, Choolaimedu.
Ram Kumar was stalking Swathi for quite sometime. He had followed her to the railway station from her residence. “He had, in fact, stalked her during her journey to Paranur junction in Chengalpet and to her workplace. The sad incident is the outcome of his unfructified efforts to befriend her,” he said. Refusing to delve deep into the investigation details, the commissioner maintained they sifted through all available CCTV footage in the vicinity of crime scene and a door-to-door investigation helped zero-in on the suspect.
“There were similarities between the image lifted from the crime scene and the same was tallied with the tenant-information register maintained at the private lodging house. Based on the developments, we sought the help of Tirunelveli district police, and secured the suspect,” Rajendran said.
