2,700-km water pipelines for Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The state government will pump in Rs 2,000 crore to improve the drinking water network in the city by laying 2,700-km of pipelines. This means as many kilometers of roads will be dug up again. The job will be carried out in coordination with GHMC corporators.
The involvement of corporators has raised questions of whether their henchmen will get the contracts and if the works will be of poor quality.
The network of pipelines is mostly for peripheral circles of the GHMC where water is supplied once in 3 to 5 days due to inadequate storage and distribution network.
“The project consists of construction of service reservoirs as per the hydraulic zones in each circle and providing feeder mains as inlet mains and trunk mains as outlet and distribution network,’’ said Water Board managing director D. Dana Kishore.
The places where the pipelines will be laid are the villages around the Outer Ring Road, Gachibowli, Manikonda, Kondapur, Serilingampally, Rajendranagar, LB Nagar, Gaddiannaram, Ramachandrapuram and Patancheru.
With regard to digging of roads, GHMC commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy said that information should be given by the departments concerned to the Water and Sewerage Board. It should also be furnished to all corporators.
He said information regarding the project should be mentioned on boards so that residents would know the details of the work being taken up in their areas.
