Secunderabad Cantonment residents write to CM on water crisis
Hyderabad: Residents of ward 5 of the Secunderabad Cantonment, which is home to a population of 25,000, wrote a letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and have started a signature campaign for better water supply as they are currently receiving water only once a week.
Residents lamented that although the SCB had hiked the tariff from Rs 315 to Rs 450, there was no improvement in the services. As a result, a group of residents has initiated a door to door campaign to collect signatures from the families suffering because of the water issue.
Vasavinagar Welfare Association president Telukunta Sathish Gupta, who initiated the campaign, said, “Water tankers take over 10 days to deliver despite booking in advance. Most borewells have dried up. Free water tankers are out of sight. How are we supposed to make it past this scorching summer without regular water supply?”
Residents also requested Mr Rao to consider merging the Secunderabad Cantonment Board with the GHMC as the civic body has been supplying water on alternate days at Rs 240.
SCB vice-president J. Rama Krishna said they had been discussing the issue of regular water supply and a lower tariff with the state government. The situation should improve in a month, he said.
