Telangana: No holiday for June 2, techies rule
Hyderabad: The IT department on Friday received complaints from software professionals that they were not given holiday on June 2, the state formation day. However, government officials stated that no directions were given to IT companies to declare holiday for their employees.
TITA (Telangana Information Technology Association), that has over 10,000 members working at different levels in software companies, stated that techies with Telangana connection in all big and medium companies availed holiday on Friday.
“Every noted IT company has a list of floating holidays like Ambedkar Jayanti, Telangana Formation Day (in case of Telangana) and any day important to a region. In Bengaluru, floating holiday option is given to Kannada techies on the eve of ‘Karnataka Rajyotsava (Karnataka Formation Day) celebrated on November 1,” TITA global president Sundeep Makthala said.
He said that there was no holiday for IT industry in the combined Andhra Pradesh state on November 1. Telangana techies used to attend office wearing black shirts to register our protest of discrimination meted out to Telangana after it was merged with Andhra in 1956, he stated.
Meanwhile, Syed Saleemuddin, who retired from government service recently said that November 1 used to be holiday or working day depending upon party in power in the last six decades. During Congress regime from 2004 to 2014, November 1 used to be a working day and employees used to hold lunch hour demonstrations on that day.
He said that June 2 was declared as a public holiday after formation of Telangana in 2014, but from the following year ( 2015) government decided to observe it as a working day so that formation day celebrations are held at all offices and institutions across the state.
