Telangana Inter admission: No notification yet, students worried

The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education is yet to release a notification regarding first-year admissions.

Hyderabad: The anxiety of students seeking admission to fist year intermediate courses seems to have no end in sight. The Telangana Government had proposed that an online admission process would be introduced from this year onwards. But while second-year intermediate classes have begun, the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education is yet to release a notification regarding first-year admissions. Meanwhile, around 5 lakh students remain uncertain about the future course of events.

An admission notification was supposed to have been released on May 5, but it has been delayed. Junior college associations allege that this reflects the government’s failure to prioritise the education sector. The president of the Telangana Junior College Association says, “It’s already June, and no notification has been released by the State Government until now. Last year, the admissions notifications were released on May 18. It is for the first time in the history of the board that the notification has not been released until June. We appeal to the government to release the first year intermediate admission notification as soon as possible. Nearly 72 colleges in Ranga Reddy district and Hyderabad are not following the government notification; they have already started intermediate classes, but no one has taken action against them.”

Sai Priya, a 16-year-old student from Ramanthpur, says, “It is already June and we are still sitting at home without taking admission in any junior college. After clearing Standard 10, I was so excited to join first-year intermediate as it is a very important period in our education system, but the government has not released any notification for online admissions until now.”

S. Gowtham, a 15-year-old student from Appa Junction in Hyderabad, says, “My elder brother, who is a second-year intermediate student, started going to college from June 1, but there is no update on our admissions until now. We are worried about the academic year getting delayed.”

Officials of the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education say that the notification for intermediate admissions will be released shortly. They say that the delay was caused by some hurdles in online processing.
