DC Impact: Tanuvas VC orders staff to maintain silence with media

Thirumavalavan were among the leaders who greeted Karunanidhi.

Chennai: Based on a report published in DC, vice-chancellor of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Tanuvas) had issued a gag order to staff insisting them not to interact with scribes as media “bringing down the reputation of university” publishes news items.

Interestingly a committee formed by the vice chancellor Dr S. Thilagar also issued a showcause notice to Dr P I Ganesan, director, Centre for Animal Health Studies, Madhavaram Milk Colony, asking him why no action should be taken against him in connection with the adverse media reports that had published against the varsity. Responding to the notice Dr Ganesan said that he had nothing to do with adverse media reports and said that he was also hurt to see the adverse news items on the premier veterinary institution.

In a related development earlier this week, VC convened a meeting with department HoDs and wanted all the designated officers of Tanuvas to pass a unanimous resolution informing the state that transparency is maintained while recruiting professors and non-teaching staff. But much to the dismay of vice chancellor, two professors protested and walked out crying foul in the recruitment process.

When DC reached out to the office of vice chancellor for official reaction there was no response. According to Tanuvas sources, a rejoinder is also getting prepared to a few media organisations refuting the news items. The draft rejoinder, which is yet to be released, explains the UGC guidelines and the methodology followed by Tanuvas.

Meanwhile, a confidential letter was written by Dr P. I. Ganesan, director, the Centre for Animal Health Studies, Madhavaram Milk Colony to the registrar of Tanuvas on May 25, informed that he was not part of the interview board for the earmarked animal health studies despite being the department director and a subject specialist. “In this context, I strongly condemn the selection process and the manner of using erasable ink while selecting the candidates. For the subjects, I was also positioned to conduct interviews, the selection sheet authorised by all the members did not contain the name of the candidate during the interview”, Dr Ganesan alleged in his confidential letter to the Registrar, VC – Tanuvas and state animal husbandry secretary.
