Government employees' strike: Good response in Shivamogga

Thousands of workers, including women, participated in the protest march.

SHIVAMOGGA: The strike by the state government employees evoked good response in Shivamogga district on Thursday.

The protesters under the banner of Shivamogga unit of State Government Employees’ Association, led by its president C.S.Shada kshari, assembled at the association office and took out a silent march through major roads before assembling for a rally in the premises of Deputy Commissioner’s office.Thousands of workers, including women, participated in the protest march.

Shadakshari who addressed the gathering said that the current pay scale was not enough to cope with the present day cost of living. The association would urge the state government to enhance the salary on par with the central government’s pay scale and implement the 7th pay commission, he added.

Shadakshari submitted the memorandum to Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri. The corridors of government offices wore a deserted look as employees kept away from attending work.
