Medaram Jatara from February 21 to 24 next year

The priests, who held a meeting at the temple executive office in Medaram, said the cleaning of the temple would be conducted on Feb 20

Warangal: The priests of the Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara Pujarula Sangham on Wednesday announced that the mega tribal fair, the Sammakka and Saralamma Jatara, would be conducted from February 21-24, 2024 at Medaram in Tadvai mandal in Mulugu district.

The priests, who held a meeting here at the temple executive office in Medaram, said the cleaning of the temple (Gudi Shuddhikarana) would be conducted on February 20 while the deities would be worshipped the next day.

The state government officially conducts the Jatara biennially at the Medaram temple.

Speaking on the occasion, the general secretary of the association Chanda Gopal Rao said as part of the rituals, villagers would come together to cleanse the temples. We allow the devotees to worship deities in the temple, he said.

On February 22, Sammakka goddess would be brought from the forest to the temple premises where the goddess presides. On February 23, the devotees will perform special rituals and offer prayers to the presiding deities of Sammakka, Saralamma, Govindaraju and Pagididdaraju. On February 24, special prayers would be offered to the presiding deities and then worshipped with turmeric and vermillion.

“A ritual followed at Medaram temple by the tribal priests where they would take back the gods to the forest known as Vana Pravesham, a culminating ceremony, of gods,” he informed. Gopal Rao has urged the district authorities to make all necessary arrangements following the arrival of scores of devotees to the tribal fair next year.
