Police identified the deceased as M Babu (28), a resident of Paruthikollai in Uthiramerur.

Chennai: A 28-year-old realtor was hacked to death in full public view at a temple in Uthiramerur on Wednesday evening, allegedly due to some previous enmity.

Police identified the deceased as M Babu (28), a resident of Paruthikollai in Uthiramerur.

At around 7 pm on Wednesday, Babu was seen talking with K Jeyavishnu on Stree Angalamman Kovil in Paruthikollai.

"We heard some people screaming and rushed to the spot. Babu was lying dead, his neck and head had cut marks," said a temple staffer.

"Eyewitnesses told us that a man who was talking to Babu stabbed him with a knife and Babu started running. He was caught by another three men in the lane opposite the temple. They stabbed him with knives and fled the spot after people started to gather," said a police officer. People from a nearby residence and shops, who witnessed the scene, said that they alerted the police, but Babu died on the spot. The Uthiramerur police have registered a case and sent his body to the Chengalpattu government hospital for post-mortem. Police said that Babu had previous enmity with another real estate businessman and AIADMK youth wing functionary, K Jeyavishnu (42) of Uthiramerur Square. On Wednesday evening, Jeyavishnu asked Babu to come to the temple to solve their problems. When Babu showed up, Jeyavishnu and his associates from Puducherry - Kumaran, Azhagu and another unidentified man - stabbed him. The police have collected CCTV footage from nearby shops.
