Probe removal of names from voters’ list: Congress MLA

He added that the officials behind the conspiracy and malpractice should be sent to jail.

Kochi: Mr V.D. Satheesan, MLA, has sought an inquiry by an independent agency into the widespread anomalies in the voters' list in the state. The names of several voters, who are traditional UDF supporters, have been removed from the list, he told reporters here on Thursday. The voters' names have been deleted by influencing the revenue officials from taluk level, he said.

"The names of at least five to 30 voters have been deleted from the list in each booth. It is the first of its kind incident in the electoral history of the state. Extensive malpractice was done in the voters' list in Attingal constituency. Even voters who exercised their franchise in the previous Assembly elections did not find their names in the list. This has been done by assigning the office-bearers of Left employees' service unions without the report and recommendation of booth-level officer," he alleged. "Complaints against this malpractice have been reported from all constituencies across the state. The removal of voters' names will be crucial in the constituencies where there is a close fight between the two major political fronts. A complaint will be submitted to the central and state election commissions against the malpractice. We will approach the court if no action is taken," he said.

He added that the officials behind the conspiracy and malpractice should be sent to jail.
