Kalikambal temple: Current trustees have to quit office

The duo will administer the affairs of the Devasthanam till the next elected board takes office.

Chennai: The Madras high court directed that the present trustees, including the managing trustee, of famous Sri Kalikambal Temple at Chennai shall not continue in the office of trustees, any more and therefore they shall be ceased to be in office forthwith and appointed a fit person till the elections are scheduled for trust board of the temple.

Justice R. Suresh Kumar on an application filed by J.V.Mani Achari, a devotee, to conduct the election for the post of trustees of Sri Kalikambal Kamateswara Devasthanam in accordance with the Scheme Decree, dated September 25, 1935, appointed, M. Baskar, advocate, as "Fit Person" and along with him, an officer not below the rank of assistant commissioner of HR & CE department to be sponsored by the commissioner HR&CE, is appointed as an "Additional Fit Person". The duo will administer the affairs of the Devasthanam till the next elected board takes office. The judge also directed that the commissioner HR&CE to ensure that the election notification shall be issued on or before 2nd week of October 2019 and election shall be conducted before November 15, 2019, and any rate, the newly elected Trust Board including the managing trustee shall be in a position to take office on or before November 30, 2019.
