Cyclone Fani: Assistance on way to Srikakulam
Rajahmundry: Authorities in Godavari districts have been taking up all necessary measures especially along the coastline, to overcome any eventuality that could arise under the impact of cyclonic Fani that is expected to make a landfall on Friday.
According to reports by the Indian Meteorological Depart-ment, the cyclonic storm is expected to cross Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali around Puri during forenoon on Friday.
According to information from the authorities, Godavari districts have been spared from major impact. They may, however, still be receiving moderate and scattered rainfall and some squally winds of low velocity that could throw peoples’daily life out of gear.
The district administration is keeping close watch along the coastline at Tuni, Tondangi and U. Kothapalli areas expecting that the cyclone after making its landfall could still show its impact.
As a precautionary measure, the authorities have evacuated 83 people from Hope Island who are being accommodated at Kakinada until normalcy is restored in the sea.
With no major impact expected to be in parts of East Godavari, the district administration is extending help to the administration in Srikakulam district. It has sent 100 diesel generators, two lakh water sachets, 100 power saws, satellite phones and other equipment and relief material along with some officers to help the district cope with the impact of the storm.
East Godavari Collector Karthikeya Misra said, "We are ready to face the cyclonic storm Fani after evacuating people from vulnerable areas to safety. We are keeping a close watch along the coastline as the sea turns rough. We are not expecting any major impact on the district and are reaching out to people in Srikakulam to help the district administration undertake relief work by sending all requisite material."
In West Godavari, too, the district administration has imposed curbs on entry of people to beaches to ensure their safety.
The district authorities reviewed the arrangements to avoid any trouble due to the cylonic storm in the coming hours to the people even as its impact is expected to be lower in the district.
