Supreme Court Collegium defers decision on Kurian Joseph

Sources, however, told this newspaper that wide range of issues relating to appointment of judges from High Courts.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court collegium headed by the Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, on Wednesday deferred its decision to reconsider the Centre’s stand not to elevate the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court as a judge of the apex court.

The Supreme Court website put out a statement saying “deferred” soon after the meeting of Collegium, which also included Justices J. Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B. Lokur and Kurian Joseph. The statement did not specify the next date of meeting, which is likely to be held next week.

Sources, however, told this newspaper that wide range of issues relating to appointment of judges from High Courts, which did not have representation, was discussed which remained inconclusive.
