Janhvi, Khushi, Boney Kapoor collect Sridevi's best actress National Award
New Delhi: Two months after she died a tragic death, Sridevi's daughters Janhvi and Khushi and husband Boney Kapoor collected the late star's Best Actress National Award at a ceremony in Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday.
The awards were presented by President Ram Nath Kovind, Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Smriti Irani, Minister of State, I&B, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and I&B Secretary Narendra Kumar Sinha.
Sridevi, who drowned in Dubai in February, was honoured with her first ever National Award posthumously - she won Best Actress for her role in 2017 movie 'MOM'.
Vinod Khanna, who died in 2017, was also honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award - India's highest film honour - and collecting the award were his son actor Akshaye Khanna and wife Kavita.
Assamese Film 'Village Rockstars' won the National Award for Best Film while Riddhi Sen won Best Actor for his performance in Bengali film 'Nagar Kirtan'.
Rajkummar Rao's 'Newton' won Best Hindi Film Award while crowd favourite 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' also won in three categories.
Clad in a saree Sridevi's elder daughter Janhvi attended the ceremony, while Khushi Kapoor joined her in a lehenga worn like a saree.
Janhvi, Khushi and Boney Kapoor arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday to attend the rehearsal for the main ceremony and that is when Boney Kapoor told DD News: "She would have been happy, very happy being here. We feel elated, proud that she's been recognised for the hard work she's put into this film." In 'MOM', Sridevi played the role of a mother who was determined to avenge the rape of her daughter.
