Hyderabad: Man murders mother after argument over property

Following the death of Ramanjaneyulu, disputes arose in the family over the property and financial matters.

Hyderabad: In a ghastly incident, a sexagenarian was allegedly murdered by her son over financial disputes at S. R. Nagar on Wednesday morning.

The police said that the victim, Bhagyamma, 62, a housewife lived along with her three sons and a daughter at their residence in Guntakal area of S. R Nagar. Her husband Ramanjaneyulu, who retired from the railways had died a few weeks ago.

Following the death of Ramanjaneyulu, disputes arose in the family over the property and financial matters. This brewed tension in the house, following which, Erramma, a relative came to stay over with the family.

“On Tuesday, the woman’s youngest son, Vijay went to his mother on the pretext of sorting out some issue pertaining to the money and property of his father. Erramma left the two of them to discuss the issues and stepped out. They started arguing over family finances, which escalated to a point where in a fit of rage, Vijay picked up the rice pounder and delivered blows on her head, killing her instantly,” said the Police Inspector of SR Nagar, Mohd Waheeduddin, adding that it was not clear what had conspired between them and the other members of the house were out during that time.

After killing her, Vijay rushed out of the house and ran away. Erramma, who went in after seeing him running away, found the woman lying in a pool of blood.

Based on a complaint made by the family, a case was booked under section 302 (murder) of IPC and an investigation was started.
