Chennai: Woman's body found on IIT campus

Police are also collecting details of servant maids working in staff quarters inside the campus.

Chennai: The body of an unidentified woman was found on Sunday in the bushes behind Brahmaputra hostel in Indian Institute of Technology - Madras campus, which is said to be highly secure and sterile premises.

The body was later shifted to government hospital for post-mortem by the police based on an alert from an IIT official, who said later that the woman’s identity is yet to be traced. He went on to say that the murdered woman did not appear to be a student or staff of IIT.

The incident had left police and IIT administration shocked. “It looks like the body was there for more than a week. And when it was found it was highly decomposed. We don’t know if there were any external injuries. It is not clear why such a thing happened in the IIT and how it went unnoticed,” police said.
Police disclosed that the woman could be aged around 40.

“There are no complaints of missing persons from the campus. We are checking the neighbouring police stations to know if anyone has gone missing”, they said. Cops are also trying to find out if the woman was a rag picker who had gained entry into the campus from Velachery or Taramani side unnoticed by the security guards.

Police are also collecting details of servant maids working in staff quarters inside the campus.
