Coonoor: The foresters here in Coonoor sweated it out to douse the wild fire that broke out in the jungles in Vandhishola area here.
Though the forest fire broke out in a small way a couple of days ago, it so happened that it continued to spread to the nearby parts, though not in a vigorous manner.
As the public expressed apprehension that it would spread to the nearby farmlands and human settlements if efforts were not taken to douse it completely, besides the local greens pleading for action to control the wildfire to safeguard the lives of the fauna and plant wealth in the jungles, the foresters who plunged into action on Tuesday morning.
They brought in firemen and fire extinguishers to douse the fire in the fringes. Then the foresters and forest fire fighting teams entered the jungles and doused the fire inside the woods. It was found that in certain pockets the smoke was still emanating indicating that fire was not completely controlled. The forest fire-fighting teams worked hard all through the day to douse the fire.
