Kerala HC demands VACB’s explanation

The court has asked whether any action has been initiated as per the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Kochi: The High Court on Tuesday sought an explanation from the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) on the steps taken by it on the allegations regarding the appointment of a close relative of higher education minister K.T. Jaleel in a government job.

The court has asked whether any action has been initiated as per the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The court made the order on a petition filed by Youth League general secretary P.K. Firoz.

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau had earlier stated that there was no probe against Mr Jaleel in connection with the appointment of a close relative in a government job.

The state government has also expressed a similar opinion. According to the complaint by Mr. Firoz, K.T. Adeeb, a close relative of Mr. Jaleel, has been appointed as general manager of Minorities Development Finance Corporation after tampering the qualification requirements.

According to Mr. Firoz the appointment was given to a person without requisite qualifications while rejecting the claims of the qualified persons.
