Congress wants WC to register case
Thiruvananthapuram: Congress has demanded Kerala Women's Commission to book LDF convener A. Vijayaraghavan for making sexist remarks against its Alathur candidate Ramya Haridas.
Senior leader Oommen Chandy, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala and KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran also came out with hard-hitting statements, demanding an apology.
Mr Chandy and Mr Chennithala maintained that the remarks amounted to outraging the modesty of a woman and insult to the Dalit community.
Mr Ramachandran wanted the government to book him for repeatedly abusing her.
He made disparaging remarks against the young woman leader on Saturday in Kozhikode taking her name and linking her to an IUML leader.
He repeated it on Monday in Ponnani at an LDF convention a few minutes before Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan arrived.
She went to the police station accompanied by legislators Anil Akkara and Shafi Parambil and filed a complaint.
Mr Parambil also took to the Facebook to harshly criticise Mr Vijayan and writer K. R. Meera as well Deepa Nishanth, a controversial online campaigner who first came against her.
“If the `50 crore spent on women wall were used for something else like lighting sparklers, the people would have enjoyed it,” he wrote on his Facebook wall.
