Congress chief, Priyanka Gandhi to land at Karipur tonight

The KPCC leadership is not aware of the duo’s itinerary as everything is conceived and implemented by the AICC team under utter secrecy.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi will be landing in the Calicut international airport Wednesday night.

The KPCC leadership is not aware of the duo’s itinerary as everything is conceived and implemented by the AICC team under utter secrecy.

On Tuesday night, a special flight will be reaching there carrying a big contingent led by AICC organising general secretary K. C. Venugopal from New Delhi who will be in charge of the overall campaigning right from filing nomination papers.

A big team of SPG, besides AICC general secretary in-charge of the state, Mukul Wasnik, would also be on the flight. They will stay at Kadavu resort.

“We sought Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala’s permission to print posters, pamphlets and brochures. But he said the AICC team would take care of everything. In all likelihood, the roadshow will not be happening at Kalpetta due to fear of Maoist attack when before filing his nomination,” he told DC.

The night stay of the Gandhis is also a well-kept secret. The security team and Congress leaders have arranged two to three accommodations simultaneously.

The duo would proceed to Kalpetta by helicopter where they would wave at people there before going to the collectorate.

Only two leaders, Mr Venugopal and Mr Chennithala, are in the know of the itinerary.

Earlier, KPCC president Mullappally Ramachan- dran, senior leader Oommen Chandy and Mr Chennithala had requested Ms Gandhi, the general secretary in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, to be the star campaigner, which she turned down citing her busy schedule in UP. But since Mr Gandhi’s candidacy from Wayanad besides Amethi might change her plan.
