Telangana government defends marks for in-service MBBS doctors

The bench will continue hearing on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State government on Monday defended its action in giving weightage marks to in-service MBBS doctors for PG Medical Courses replacing the in-service quota stating that in-service quota was replaced with weightage marks as per Regulation 3 of the Medical Council of India.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K Vijaya Lakshmi was hearing petitions against the GO No 21 and 22 issued by the state government in 2017 introducing the weightage marks system.

A. Sanjeev Kumar, special counsel for the government, said 50 per cent seats would be filled with local candidates after providing for the national pool. He dismissed the petitioners’ apprehensions over losing opportunity to PG medical courses. The bench will continue hearing on Tuesday.
