Ernakulam uses 80 per cent of plan funds

District ranks second in fund utilization.

KOCHI: Ernakulam district has utilised 90.05 percent of the Plan allocation for 2017-18, making it the second top spender in the state for the just concluded financial year. As per the local self-government department's (LSGD) performance analysis as on Monday, Kollam tops the list with 90.4 percent and Kannur which spent 89.86 percent is at the third position. Thiruvananthapuram is at the bottom spending only 84.94 percent.

Ernakulam could bag the honour helped by the good performance of many municipalities, block panchayats and grama panchayats. The district could spend more than 80 percent of funds in all sectors like general (87.16 percent), special component plan (84.68 percent), tribal sub-plan (81.22 percent) and Central scheme funds (85.47 percent). However, Ernakulam district panchayat has bagged the top position among district panchayats with 84.77 percent expenditure while Idukki is the poorest performer with only 55.54 percent expenditure.

Among the six municipal corporations, Kochi, which spent 76.07 percent of the total annual allocation, is in the fourth position. Aluva, North Paravur, Kothamangalam, Kalamassery, Eloor, Koothattukulam, Angamaly, Tripunithura and Muvattupuzha are the top spending municipalities in Ernakulam. Among the grama panchayats, Asamannur, Sreemoolanagaram, Parakkadavu, Udayamperoor, Kalady, Kanjoor, Vazhakulam, Nedumbassery and Kottuvally are some of the top spenders. Meanwhile, as per the LSGD data, Cheranalloor panchayat is the worst performer in Ernakulam which spent only 66.95 percent Plan funds. Among the municipalities, Perumbavoor is the poor spender with 78.56 percent.
