Chennai: AIADMK MP S Muthukaruppan does U-turn on resignation
Chennai: AIADMK MP S. Muthukaruppan, who announced his resignation over Cauvery water issue last week on Monday, announced that he had resigned his MP post. However, hours later the MP made a U-turn, coming out with excuses informing the media that Rajya Sabha chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu was not available for him to submit the resignation.
Social media went gaga over the resignation event and called the drama as post April Fool's Day event and the morning resignation speech by the MP reiterating that what is the point in being an MP when there is no water to drink also made headlines till noon. However, the news lost its fizz, when the reporters came to know that the 'resignation ' process was not completed.
A few reporters also confronted the MP in Delhi and asked why was he dilly-dallying from the idea of resigning. To this, Muthukaruppan responded that both his leaders Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam clarified to him that the resignation of the MP post will not help TN on the Cauvery issue.
Further, he added that the Chief Minister spoke to him over phone and asked him to wait till April 9 when Supreme Court is likely to hear the contempt petition filed by the state against the Centre.
Muthukaruppan is the second person in the party who offered to resign his post and then did a U-turn. AIADMK MLA V. Panneerselvam of Kalasappakkam constituency in Tiruvannamalai last month expressed that he wanted to resign his MLA post within a few hours he did a U-turn from his earlier statement.
