Act tough on code violators: DG&IGP Neelamani N Raju

She advised police officials to keep an eye on anti-social elements, who will try to disturb the law and order situation.

BENGALURU: DG&IGP Neelamani N. Raju on Monday issued a stern warning to all political parties and workers against organising orchestra and dance parties to gather crowds for election campaigns.

Speaking at the Flag Day programme at the KSRP grounds here, she underlined the policeman’s job during elections and especially when the poll code of conduct is in place.

“It's our responsibility to ensure that the code of conduct is upheld. It’s also our responsibility to bring violators to book," she said, adding that organisers of all programmes related to elections should ensure that they are in line with the code of conduct.

Ms Raju also warned police officials that strict action would be taken against them if they are found favouring any political activities or politician. She advised police officials to keep an eye on anti-social elements, who will try to disturb the law and order situation.

EC to keep tabs on weddings too

The Election Commission has kept a hawk’s eye on family functions, including marriages, to stop political parties from distributing goodies and wooing voters. Citizens have to obtain permission from the EC for mass feeding and other occasions.

Village fairs and spiritual programmes too are under the radar of the EC. It is alleged that such occasions are used by political parties to distribute money and liquor to induce voters.
