Key post lies vacant at TSERC
Hyderabad: A key position of a director in the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) has remained vacant for the last six months. The director plays a key role in deciding power tariff in the state.
After the retirement of TSERC director (technical) L. Manohar Reddy six months back, the energy department had sent a file to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao requesting him to fill up the post. However, the director post remains vacant after the lapse of six months.
The director (technical) is an important officer as he approves the tariff proposed by power distribution companies. Following his approval, TSERC may issue a tariff order fixing rates that Discoms charge for power.
In the absence of director (technical), the director (finance) is handling the tariff- related issues at the state power tariff regulator.
TS Transco has decided not to hike the power tariff for the year 2017-18 as announced by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. However, two Discoms in the state have submitted the Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) proposals to TSERC. Based on these reports, power tariff regulator has to take a decision on fixing the power tariff.
